Fender Mustang Micro

The latest edition to guitar headphone amps, Fender has come out with the Fender Mustang Micro, giving guitar headphone amps a much needed upgrade. Vox & Blackstar Amplug 2

The Blackstar amplug 2 fly stands out from Vox, in that it can achieve clean, crunch, and lead tones with the press of a button. If you want versatility and easy access to 3 different tones, this is for you.

There are 6 Vox Amplug 2 Guitar models, which produce different tones (Clean, Classic Rock, Blues, AC30, Lead, Metal). These are great for those of you who just want to plug and play, without tweaking the settings much.

If you want similar versatility as the Blackstar, the clean, classic rock, and blues models will be able to do both clean and drive tones, but it will take a little more tweaking.

Built In Drum Patterns

The Blackstar Amplug 2 Fly Bass has a total of 6 drum patterns. The tap tempo control method doesn’t give you precise control over your tempo. If you don’t mind that and you want to be able to play clean and drive tones, this is for you.

Note: There will be noticeably more bass and you cannot lower it, but it is playable.

The Vox Amplug 2 Bass has a total of 9 total drum patterns. The tempo wheel control method gives you more precise control over your tempo. This model will be able to do clean tones, but not gain tones.

Note: There will be noticeably more bass and you cannot lower it, but it is playable.

Guitar Tricks

Valeton Rushead Max

The Valeton Rushead Max has the most amount of versatility in terms of tonal options. You can select the Ambient effects (delay, reverb, delay+reverb), Modulation effects (chorus, tremelo, flanger), and Gain effects (Clean, Overdrive, Distortion).

Another highlight is that it is USB powered, which means you can recharge it. Every other model on this list is powered by battery. The battery on the Valeton lasts for up to 5 hours, while the battery powered headphone amps will last up to 17 hours.

Best For Fun: Vox Amplug 2 Bass

The Vox Amplug 2 Bass has more drum patterns built in than the blackstar model. Also, I think it has a better clean tone.

Best Value: Valeton Rushead Max

The Valeton Rushead Max has the more effect options and flexibility with mixing and matching effects. You also have more ability to adjust the effects, rather than a preset like the Vox and Blackstar have opted for.
